I feel like I am a decently chill person. I don’t get super heated that easily and I don’t feel so insanely passionate about much that it would cause me to have an insanely aggressive debate about. But there is one topic out of those few that I am passionate about that I would easily fight someone over. Fries.
Now you may be thinking, “Fries are fries, what’s the big deal?” Well, I am here to tell you just how fricking wrong you are.
ALL
FRIES
ARE
COMPLETELY
DIFFERENT
.
There are so many types of fries, based on shape, seasoning, crunchiness, and many other factors, but I will lay out my top 5 list for the best fries. In my opinion, this is really not a debatable list. If you want to argue against me, that’s fine and I accept that, but you will probably be wrong. Sorry.
- Steak Fries.
Coming in at fifth, we have steak fries. My personal favorite source of steak fries is from Red Robin, simply because I would always get the mac and cheese and then dip my wonderfully fat steak fries into the extra cheese after I was done with the pasta. I don’t know why I was talking in the past tense, I honestly still do this. Steak fries are a solid okay. They are pretty good, but there’s nothing overly special about them that would cause me to move them up on the list. They are just good.
- French Fries.
Fourth, we have regular french fries. These are pretty decent. They are straight-up basic, but I am okay with it because they are kind of the poster french fry. The best regular french fries are from McDonald’s, definitely. They put just the right amount of salt on them (which would be about an entire salt shaker), which just enhances the great flavor of these fries. I like the width of them.
- Crinkle Fries.
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about these fries is Portillos. They have amazing crinkle fries. I don’t think I have ever had a bad crinkle fry. They don’t over or undercook them, and I appreciate them. These fries especially slap with some nacho cheese. I think the entire vibe of Portillos really puts these fries high up on the list. They are fun to bite because of all the groves in them, and I appreciate that.
- Waffle Fries.
Coming in at second, we have waffle fries. My personal favorite waffle fries are from Crosstown, which is a wing restaurant. I think waffle fries are so fun to eat because I like biting along the crosses throughout the fry and trying to get it so there is one piece left. They are really good and I always have a great time eating them.
- Curly Fries.
Finally, in our number one spot, we have curly fries. There is nothing, literally nothing, more satisfying than pulling out a super long curly fry and having it in the most perfect loop ever. My favorite curly fries are by far Arby’s. I get them so often. They are indisputably the best fries. I give them an 11/10. They are so good and I highly recommend them. Just truly amazing.
Additional Notes:
For condiments, I hate ketchup. I think it is disgusting. For my fries toppings, I will have any of the following: BBQ sauce, nacho cheese, milkshake, or cajun seasoning. And salt, of course. I think these choices do not block the flavor of the fries, but rather enhance them, and that is what I look for. I also hate crunchy fries. I like my fries to be nice and flexible, but not like undercooked. They have to have that perfect balance in between, and that is what makes the best fries.
I love fries. I obviously think about them a lot because I’ve had this list in my head for years. I have gotten into arguments with friends about which fries are the best. I will literally look up pictures of fries during class and just scroll through them. I am obsessed. I hope you’ve found this list helpful, and I highly recommend trying all of these fries from these specific places. Let me know if you have any suggestions on places that you think have better fries! Thanks for reading!
Allie- this is a great and informative post. My favorite fries are also curly fries because they have the most flavor, and I also strongly dislike ketchup. We have a lot of similarities (maybe we should be friends). However, I think McDonald’s fries suck. They have no potato, only skin and salt.
This blog is beautiful, though controversial. I am personally a big fan of steak fries. I’m the type of person who when food is too hot, I eat it anyway and open-mouth chew until it cools off. Steak fries are GREAT for that. They are always good, very consistent. I am also a big fan of Red Robin. I’d also have to disagree that all crinkle fries are good. I’ve had a fair share of soggy crinkle fries. Nevertheless, I love this blog! Very good topic that I am quite passionate about as well.
