How I survived without social media for 3 years. (Youtubers Edition)

Skip Ahead for Recommendations to Youtubers.

I feel like I’ve been too much of a stickler these past months. I dunno. I’m getting kinda bored & scared (C- in AP Stats is kinda bad, not gonna lie). In the meantime, let’s do some timepass.

Ok. Lemme tell ya somethin’. I have not had the chance of indulging myself in social media for 3 years. No Twitter, No Insta, No Snap, No Facebook, No Linkedin, not even Myspace (can you imagine living without Myspace for 3 years?). Ok, I had an insta account, but the last time I was on it, the month was February 2017 & after that, I forgot my password. On top of that, I rarely text/call anyone. The only people I have on speed dial are my mom & my dad. The only two people I message are my mom & my dad. I use hangouts only for school stuff & asking people about assignments. Basically, excuse me for being antisocial (Roddy Rich reference).

So, you ask, you beseech, you plead me to tell what unholy distraction has kept me sane for all this while & rooted me in the 21st century? Well I shall tell you- Youtube.

I haven’t downloaded any app/game on my phone for over 3 years too (brown parents gotta be overly obsessed about every thing you do). So the only useful apps on my phone are- Youtube & Clock (for alarms. duh!). Now. 3 years of Youtube (as well as 2,369 manga chapters aaaaaaaannnnnnnnddddd counting) later, I have compiled an obscene passion for a few select youtubers & channels as well as anime/manga & late night shows.

Let’s start with the first category for this blog. By the way, all these are suggestions for what I’m on right now (sounds like drugs but is not. trust me).

Youtubers-

Right now, there are three people that I like the most.

Jimmy Zhang, Fregend & loveliveserve.

Jimmy Zhang

This guy has the most underrated channel on Youtube. His content can get very raunchy sometimes & the language is certainly not PG-13, but if you know that you’re a big boi or girl & you can handle it, then I would recommend his channel highly. He (basically) goes out in the streets of New York & does dares with strangers or ask them questions. He has a few skits (not on YT) & he used to vlog. To give you an example, I have linked a few, below. FYI, a lot of his content has anime references (not a lot, but a fair amount). Also, read the subtitles (they’re creative & funny)

(BLOCKED BY SCHOOL, MIGHT WANNA HAVE SOME HEADPHONES WHILE LISTENING)

One of my favorite series made by him.

His casual dares.

Rating- 10/10. Raunchy Comedy, Funny strangers, good graphics, creative subtitles.

Fregend

The guy has some pretty good content but I ain’t recommending his pre-college, high school content. This guy basically makes a lot of “asian” song parodies (you might have heard a few on TikTok). His song parodies might offend a few people because of the over-exaggerated accents & stereotypes he uses. His language isn’t exactly PG-13 either, so……. proceed with caution. Even, if you’re offended by that, he still has a few of his own solo rap songs & a lot of vlogs (a few reaction videos as well, eh. They’re alright). BTW, he used to attend BU but I think he got into Brown University recently (at least that’s what the implication was). Anyways, here are a few examples.

(AGAIN, MIGHT BE BLOCKED BY SCHOOL, USE HEADPHONES)

Some of his “Asian” parodies

An original song of his. Its quite alright.

One of his vlogs. (He quit vaping.)

Rating- 7.5/10. Good & diverse content. Sometimes inconsistent in quality.

loveliveserve

loveliveserve. The dynamic duo. Noahboat & Rhino. They have some really hilarious material on their channel. A fraction of their content isn’t blocked because they don’t use R language/content in all their videos. However a majority of their content isn’t Pg-13. You might know them for their infamous lip-syncing videos, “When the song doesn’t match the video”, different skits & their best series (in my view)- “Listening to inappropriate songs in the Library”. I’m not gonna say much, just gonna link a few videos for you to see.

(AGAIN! ALL VIDEOS ARE BLOCKED. YOU DEFINITELY LEARN FROM THESE SOCIAL PRANKS ON HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR HEADPHONES ARE CONNECTED.)

The “Inappropriate songs” edition. (They switched it a little bit & did this in an Uber recently)

Earlier content, yet hilarious.

Some of their skits. Pretty Funny

Rating- 8.5/10. They have some REALLLYY good content, but they sometimes go overboard with it & start exaggerating a lot.

Ok. Ladies & Gentlemen, that’s all for our show tonight, see you next time for late night/comedic, webseries/shows.

  1. Very interesting, I don’t think I’ve seen any of these channels but they sound intriguing. Have you heard of scambaiting videos? Check them out, I find them quite funny.

    1. Thanks Daniel! I’ll be sure to check Scambaiting videos. I hope I’ve convinced you to watch these channels via my blog though. What say you? Will you give them a try?
