The Fault In Our Stars Book Review
Whenever I would think of John Green, I would think of Crash Course and history. It never occurred to me that John would have a soft side other than talking about history and dead people. John shows his vulnerability in his book The Fault In Our Stars when two people fall in love. This love story involves trauma, comedy, and sparks flying between the two main characters Hazel and Augustus.
Hazel was diagnosed with lung cancer and after a support group, she meets Augustus. They bond over their love for reading, especially their love over their favorite book. They go on a trip to find their favorite author and together on their journey, they fall in love. Augustus tells Hazel terrible news about him and his medical history which causes a rough patch between them. Together they find a way to come back to each other overcoming their problems and finding a way to live with each other medical issues. Although there are tragedies and death, in the end, their love lives on throughout every reader.
Readers will feel the powerful emotions throughout the bookkeeping you engaged and surrounded by the story. This book is very heart touching and John Green did a very good job writing it and creating the characters. No matter what age the reader is, they will find a way to connect to the story.
I personally feel this story is a little cheesy, but it has inspired me to open my own heart to love. This story shows the good sides of a relationship and the problems that come towards a relationship. It shows how the people in the relationship must stay together and fight for their love.
Through this book, I learned so much. I learned that no matter what, you should never give up. I may sound cheesy, but I really feel that this book demonstrates that if there is a will there’s a way. Hazel and Augustus pushed themselves and overcome their challenges, individuals and together. But it was through those challenges they found each other again throughout their love story.
There are many different symbols throughout this novel, and I feel the biggest one is water. This may sound odd but the symbolism of the water is very creative. Hazel has lung cancer, making it hard for her to breathe and putting her on an oxygen tank. Almost like she is sinking right? As the water (cancer) fills her lungs, it is harder for her to survive, but in many ways, it is the water that keeps her alive. Augustus’s last name is Waters. Augustus keeps hazel alive and is the light in her life while she is dealing with extreme darkness throughout her cancer journey.
This shows that what brings us as humans down, can build us back up in many different forms. From evil comes good and from the “water” in hazel’s lungs comes the love of her life Augustus Waters.
Although there are so many things in each person’s life, we need to keep pushing and find the light at the end of the tunnel in order to be happy.
This novel may just seem like a sappy love story, but it is truly inspiring which pushes every reader to strive to be their best. Audiences will find themselves in tears as they close the book but also wanting more. No matter the age or gender of the reader, there will be something to connect to throughout this book, making it one of a kind.
