For the Hot People

Sorry for the clickbait, I mean the high-fever kind of hot people… this past weekend I ended up getting the flu, and despite all the other issues that come with being sick, finding entertaining ways to pass the time became increasingly more difficult. So, I thought I’d share a list of possible activities to do when sick (with the Coronavirus here in Chicago, it may be a good idea to save this list for later… just in case). The ideas on this list avoid any physical movement or eating, as that is not always possible either.

  1. NETFLIX

This is honestly how I spend 95% of the time I’m awake when sick; Constantly watching TV honestly helps with distracting yourself when sick, and you don’t have to exert any energy with this method. If you know you’ll be sick for a while and have quite a bit of time on your hands, try watching a longer show so there’s more time for an increasingly riveting plot to develop.

There are quite a few shows that will keep you captivated for longer than just a few days: Greys Anatomy, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, That 70s Show, The Flash. If you’re aiming to be able to finish a series so that you don’t still feel addicted to it once you return to school, there’s plenty of shorter shows for that as well: The Good Place, Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, You. Staying focused on an intense show or just having one play in the background can help ease the boredom or distract you from the discomfort you might be feeling. You might even have a few laughs (which could be good or bad depending on whether or not you have any chest pain).

The show I spent most of my time watching – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

2. FOLLOW THE ASSASSINS TWITTER FEED

This is more of a seasonal fix, but fitting considering all the assassins hype that has begun to ramp up. Scrolling through all the media & reading the tweets posted by assassin rumor accounts is always very amusing. You can even make a list (or should I say Quizlet) of people and their targets so that you’ll be at the top of your game when you get back. Reading up on the rule updates & seeing where the chain of targets & assassins leads can occupy a large amount of time and is a small price to pay if it helps you accomplish the goal of winning. Plus stalking all the twitter pages and watching the videos of others getting out can make you at least a little grateful (if you’re playing) that your assassin can’t reach you for the time being.

Just one of the many peculiar yet hilarious photos that assassins prompted

3. FACETIME

If you’re feeling a bit of FOMO or honestly worried that the coronavirus might just end it all for you, this may be a good option for you (to get in your last words). If you have any siblings in college or cousins who live far away, now’s the time to hear about what’s been going on in their lives. Hearing stories & talking with others helps with distracting as well as makes you feel a bit less lonely in between your four walls. This isn’t only limited to facetiming family, though, reaching out to friends or being on call while all your friends are together can help you feel just as much a part of the action as before.

4. BOOKS? & SCHOOLWORK:/

If you’re sick with something where you’re stuck in bed reading these tips, you most likely will be missing some school. Which means that the work can start to pile up very quickly. Reading can make your eyes water with a fever, so books aren’t always the best option. Although, after taking pills or in between fever spikes you should probably get a bit of work done – granted it may take 3 times as long and 10 times the effort when compared to usual. Schoolwork is probably the exact opposite of what you want to do, but if you think about it the more you do now the less you have to do later. Plus the state of being sick is already unenjoyable so you might as well make the recovery process a bit easier and sacrifice your current plummeting rates of happiness.

5. LOOK THROUGH YOUR CAMERA ROLL

If you’re anything like me, your camera roll can captivate you for hours. When I was sick, I realized I had about 17,500 photos & videos at my disposal, so I thought I might as well put them to good use. We take them for a reason, right? Obviously to do this you don’t need 17,000 photos; looking over any collection of media can bring nostalgia or laughs. Doing this can also remind you of some of the fun things you used to do or give you ideas of what to do when you’re back to normal. You can also use this time to go back and delete some of your photos to save yourself some storage.

My excessive camera roll; Somehow our iCloud accounts merged, so every photo anyone in my family has ever taken has transferred to my phone.

6. SLEEP

Not much explanation needed here. This is kind of what everyone does as much as possible when sick, but I would recommend Nyquil so you actually can get some good quality sleep 🙂

…. Andddd those are all the tips I can fit in for now. Despite the effort I’ve put in, my main hope is that this post is useless and no one suffers any illnesses any time soon. If you do end up bored in bed with a fever, though, you know where to look for ideas!

    Hey Sophie – great post!

All these tips would definitely help whenever someone gets sick. Though I’m not playing, and I’m not even sick, your second tip of following the assassins rumors pages definitely has taken up a lot of my time these past couple of days, and seems to have overcome the day-to-day lives of some of my friends.
