everybody learns to change for the better. their past and new experiences allow them to see themselves in the mirror and edit themselves. Mary Anne was lost. she didn’t know who she was. she saw all this war and dint know how to handle it. she is scared, dirty, and misguided. war changes people. not just marry Anne but all the solders that are fighting it to. rat and the other solders take her in and they try to find her peace so she can change and go back into the world.
Rat tells the story of marry Anne. rat makes the story believable because he makes it sound so real with the experiences she goes through and how she changes. in the end of the chapter. it tells how Marry Anne goes back into Vietnam. even though she decides to go back. her experiences with rat and the soldiers changes her mentally and physically. she changed to become this predatory killer because before she was scared and now she is strong and she feels she belongs there and that why she went back. when people come back from war they have metal scars of the things that happen weather it is something such as someone dying, the explosions, and the blood. they have flash backs from things that remind them of it. the scars that are left in peoples minds are more painful than the ones on the body. this connects to Mary Anne because she decided to stay. she decides to stay in a dangerous place because that was her life and she believes that her life needs to continue in this lifestyle.
in the book the chapter is called sweetheart of sang tra bong. it emphasis sweetheart because many of the solders tried to connect with Mary Anne. the solders find peace in her because of the experiences in the war that they share.
o’Brian wants to show the effects of war in this chapter. he wants to show how people change from experiences. the solders change because of the tragedy that is going on right in front of their faces. but for marry Anne she is changed into a better and stronger person. these experiences give them important lessons that they will use for the rest of their lives. when the solders go home they will have the scars of the war, but when Mary Anne went back into Vietnam she carried the experiences she shared with eh solders with her. these experiences changed her life for the better and she can live a better life now.
think of the experiences that has changed your life for the better. big or small those experiences happened for a reason to change your life and give you a better life. Mary Anne is going to look back at her experiences and see how much of a better life she has. so look what you went through and look back at the good because past experiences will shape your life
