I am going to start this blog by saying if you do not know this man then shame on you. Hopefully after this blog you will not only know him like I do, but you will also sit down and watch every single one of his movies. Yes he is a filmmaker who also plays small roles in his own movies. The thing that separates him from all other filmmakers is that he explored genres never before tested by others, and now has a reputation for being able to create what no other can.

His movies are violent. The scenes with violence are exaggerated and the cinematography around it is incredible. This however makes up only a part of his films; the other being the fantastic actors he casts performing roles that entice the viewer. He is not like a mainstream filmmaker who releases a lot of movies in order to make a lot of money. He puts his reputation on the line for every movie he makes, and does everything he can to make sure it not only holds up his reputation but improves it. One of his most important considerations in his movies is the soundtrack. He is known for perfecting scenes because of the music choice in the background.

Having seen almost all of his movies, I will rank what I believe to be the top five so that you can appreciate this man’s genius.

Pulp Fiction

I mean what is there to say about Pulp Fiction. It is a must watch for anyone of any taste as it revolutionized the film industry. This movie’s soundtrack is perfect for the scenes, and that paired with the brutal yet captivating characters create a movie that will change your life. I do not want to ruin it, so if you have not seen it yet DO SO!

Kill Bill 1 and 2

I put these two together because that is how they HAVE to be watched. If you sit down to watch Kill Bill 1 you better have the intention of staying there and watching number two as well, as they can not be watched separately. I’m sure even if you wanted to you would not be able to anyway as they are so entertaining that stopping yourself is nearly impossible. These movies are the most violent and they are very involving. You are taken on a journey of mass destruction which just itches a spot you didn’t even know you had. Definitely a must see.

Django Unchained

Django is another classic with another fantastic soundtrack. This one takes place back in the time of slavery in the United States and provides a unique perspective of a freed slave’s life. Again there is quite a lot of violence but when it is to people who deserve it, I must say it is entertaining.

Inglourious Basterds

This one is not as mainstream as the others but a great one nonetheless. Taking place during WWII this movie follows a team made up of all Jewish people who attack the Nazi’s. Again the violence is deserved and creates a very entertaining movie. The relationships between the people in the squadron makes the movie very funny as each character brings their own skill and personality to the group.

Hateful Eight

I’m sure most people know this one as it is fairly new and was very popular upon release. This is a different one for him as it almost all takes place in a small cabin with all the characters inside. This has the most character development and the most intricate story line as it is putting the pieces of a very large puzzle together.

This has been my attempt of having you decide to watch some of Quentin Tarantino’s films next time you sit down to watch something. A luxury that does not come often as students… I hope I have been successful and if you have either already seen some or will do, let me know what you think!
