F1 Ranking Liveries

In this blog, I will be ranking and discussing all of Formula One team liveries. This year there are ten teams competing in the Formula One world championship, which includes Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, Alpine, Alpha Tauri, Mclaren, Aston Martin, Haas, Alfa Romeo, and Williams. This year I think all the liveries look pretty good. There are definitely some that stand above the rest, but there are none that I particularly dislike.

In my number one spot, I have Williams Racing. Although Williams is usually last in the race, they are first in paint jobs. The mix of blues and clean angles is what really makes this car pop. The blue on the car makes it look super elegant while racing. The minimal and noninvasive sponsors on the car make me really enjoy the livery so much more. Not to mention the small red accents on the back of the car that make the Versa logo blend in with no problem. The Williams car is just a beautiful blend of blues which puts it above the rest for me.

In second place, only in liveries of course, is Aston Martin. I am not usually a fan of green, but this darker, metallic green just hits my eyes right. It makes the driver’s helmet pop in almost every scenario. Mentioning pop, the yellow accents. Again, not a big fan of yellow, but I think Aston Martin did a great job of adding just enough to be a significant detail, but not enough to be a nuisance. I love how the yellow tapers away towards the back of the car on the bottom, adding to the speedy look of the car. The only negative I have for this livery is the yellow Aston Martin logo near the front wheel. I think the yellow makes the details hard to see and takes away from the yellow lines’ effects. Overall, this is one of my favorite liveries.

Third on the list, a bump up from the racing order, is Alfa Romeo. Adding a lot of details to a livery can go very wrong if not done right. Adding to many details makes the car busy and hard to look at, but Alfa Romeo was able to pull it off. The red, whtie, and black look amazing on this car. By integrating white into a large portion of the car, the white sponsor logos don’t look as off putting. The same can be said about the red sponsor logos on the white parts of the car. My favorite part of this livery though is the cursive Alfa Romeo. This detail is just a piece of art on a car and I love it. Also, the wheel covers matching the livery is great and was executed perfectly, unlike another car on the list.

Fourth is the team with two liveries, Alpine. I will only be judging Alpine’s mostly blue livery because I think it is the better of the two. And hey it’s my blog so I make the rules. I honestly don’t love the pick that’s on the car, but the rest of the car just looks too good to put it any lower. The shiny blue is absolutely gorgeous. The sponsors on the car add a bit of a retro vibe to the car which is great. Overall, I just like this livery quite a bit.

Fifth is Ferrari. There isn’t a ton to say about this livery. The matte red is amazon and the Shell logo fits perfectly. I love the small Italian flag behind the air intake, and the black on the fin, halo, and wings add to the fierceness of the car. I wish that there was maybe a little more, but I think this is a tasteful, standard Ferrari.

Sixth is Red bull. Red bull has been using the same livery for years now. Through every car change and season, the navy with red and yellow has been a permanent fixture on the track. That being said, I don’t hate it. It’s a menacing car that has an amazing looking bull on the back. It is such a classic at this point I can’t hate it. I don’t like the massive Oracle logo on the side, but with the money they are giving it makes a lot of sense.

Seventh, Red Bull’s sister team, Alpha Tauri. Same with Red Bull, Alpha Tauri hasn’t changed their livery since their transition from Toro Rosso a few years ago. I really like the navy and white color scheme, but coming from a fashion company, I think there could be more pizazz to the car. It’s just too plain to be any higher on the list. And I think you’ll find that’s a common occurrence with the next few teams.

In a shocking eighth, is Mclaren. I’m going to be honest, the preseason livery would have been a few places higher on the list. I do like the orange and blue. I think they are a nice pop and surprisingly don’t hurt my eyes as much as I thought it would. My biggest grip with this car is what google did to it. I hate the wheel covers and the android logo. The green looks terrible and out of place, and the wheels don’t match anything. It looks like they put a rattle on their wheels. I’ve loved the look of past Mclaren’s and it pains me to put them so low on this list.

Ninth goes to the silver arrows, Mercedes. I loved Mercedes cars last year. The black with blue highlights was cool and futuristic. Now, they look like their car just came off the assembly line in that ugly gray. The blue highlight is still there which I like, but it just doesn’t look as good. I do like the arrows that fade into the back of the car, but other than that it just looks so plain.

Last, is Haas. Now I can’t give them too much grief about their car because they just dropped their Uralkali sponsorship because of the Russia Ukraine conflict. But, the car is just so boring. I like the red and white, similar to Alfa Romeo, but it just doesn’t look interesting. I love the shape of their car a ton, and I think that they are poised to do well this season, but their livery is just the weakest of the pack.
