Over the course of my childhood, my family would go on a vacation each year. The reason and length for this trip would change from year to year. However, regardless of the destination or the duration of the trip, it has always been something I looked forward to. This year, since my brother and I will both be at college, my parents planned to finally get away from us and go on their own vacation. But because of the coronavirus that might have to wait one more year. So in honor of “the end of an era” so to speak with all of the kids finally getting ready to leave the house, I decided to reminisce on my favorite vacations throughout the years.
#5 – Washington D.C. and New York City
A few years ago my family and I flew to Washington D.C. where we spent a couple of days exploring the many famous landmarks and museums. After a couple busy days in D.C. we took a train to New York which quickly became one of my favorite places on earth. I loved how busy the city was and the fact that there were always thousands of things going on. I also loved how beautiful the buildings were, from downtown to the many neighborhoods that stretched on for miles.
When I was 11 years old I used to play for a travel baseball team called the Fort Bend Bulls. At the end of our summer season the team travelled to Orange Beach for a tournament and stayed in the same group of houses. I spent the entire week playing baseball and running around by the pool and the beach with some of my best friends. As 11 year olds we were all truly living our best lives (and so were all of our parents). Everyone had so much fun that we decided to make the exact same trip the following year.
From 2001 to 2011 my family visited Colorado every year. We simply loved it too much to go anywhere else. The calming trails in the mountains along with the beautiful towns such as Estes Park are definitely some of my favorite places to go. There is just such a nice feeling of being in Colorado that I think everyone should experience.
Next on my list is a road trip we took a couple years ago. We set out first for Colorado where we spent a couple of days hiking up our favorite paths and driving through our favorite mountains. Then we set out for Las Vegas where we spent a weekend exploring all of the beautiful casinos ( which I would love to do again in three years. After that we drove to Las Angeles and then up the coast to San Francisco. Finally we drove back through Jackson Hole, Wyoming where we explored a few more mountains before heading back home. This trip had so many amazing destinations that made it one of the best weeks of my life.
Finally, we made it to last summer and my favorite vacation of all time. Last year my brother had a summer internship in London. So my parents used it as an excuse to schedule a two week vacation throughout Europe. We started off spending a few days in London, which is where I would like to study abroad at some point. Then we flew to the beach city of Nice, France where we stayed for a few more days. Finally, we went to Chamonix, a mountain city 12 thousand feet below the peak of the mountains. This trip was the only time I’ve ever left the country and was by far the best vacation I have ever been on.
