To be completely honest I already hate this blog.
I hate feeling this way.
Most of all, I hate quarantine.
However, if there is one thing that this is all good for it is that it is teaching me a thing or two. I am learning how to be ok with not being ok. I hate not knowing what my senior year will look like. I hate being out of control. However, there is no control in a situation like this one. I know it can feel like this is going to last forever, trust me I feel it too, but here are some tips that can help make you take back some control.
1.Workout
I absolutely hated running. I did not understand why anyone would want to put themselves through that. However, in the last few weeks, I have come to find it is one of the only ways I can get out of my house. I have started running 3-5 miles depending on the day and I have never felt better. Getting off my couch to go do something productive means that even if my run was only 30 minutes, I at least did something with my day. I’m not saying running is the only option either, maybe go for a bike ride or follow a workout video on youtube. I recently started doing Chloe Ting’s work out videos after I run and it keeps me active. The best part is that after I am done with my workout I get more energy to carry with me throughout my day. I even started running with my mom so that I could spend some time with her.
2. Start a project
At the beginning of the quarantine, I redid my room. This project was something I was personally motivated to do and it was fun! I got to put my own spin on my space. Re-doing a room is a lot of work so if you don’t want to commit to that project there are so many other options. Maybe try to rearrange something or sort through old stuff that you can get rid of. Giving yourself little projects like this can give you something to do and help you feel more productive and in control.
3.Set aside time for family
My family has the routine that every night we sit down for dinner and then after we wither watch TV together or play a game. Having this routine in my day is something I can look forward to. I know that even if I have an unproductive day I will always at least have my family that I can spend time with. I know it can be annoying to only be able to see the same people every day but try to take advantage of their company because there is not much else you can do other than try to make light of the situation.
4.Keep in touch with friends
My last tip for trying to stay in control stems back to trying to maintain a normal life. It can be hard to keep in touch with friends when you don’t get to see them in person but there are so many ways that you can keep in touch. My and some of my friends have a group chat so that we can say “hey does anyone want to facetime tonight and talk?” It may be hard to find things to talk about considering that not much is going on so another fun thing to do with friends is play a game, “Psych” and “Photo Roulette” are both multiplayer games that you and your friends can download and play. It is a fun way to keep in touch with everyone.
I know these times are hard to make the best of the situation but I hope these tips helped a bit to find something to do and give back some of the normal parts of our lives that we may be missing right now. So from me to you, don’t stop living because of the situation. You are in control. You don’t have to let this situation control you.
