War changes people.
Throughout this chapter, a story was told by rat Kelly and he talked about a character that was introduced by the name of Mary Anne. Mary Ann was curious about things she was not timid like people thought she would be. “ War intrigued her” ( O’Brien 91). This quote change Throughout the chapter because she realize what war was really like and at first she thought it was fascinating but once she experienced that angered her Lake on page 106 it talks about how she wants to “ eat this place up” this shows that she is angry about war and the outcome that comes along with the journey. She later leaves without telling anyone and becomes one with the jungle because War changed her and her outlook on her life and the outside world.
Life after the war is never the same. Rat is talking about the last time they saw Mary Anne “What happened to her, rat sad, was what happened to all of them. You come over clean and you get dirty and then afterward it’s never the same.” This quote talks about Mary Anne’s time after the war and How rat Kelly and all of his friends and members Never saw her again after she disappeared. But also the guys will never look at life the same after they get back home from war.
War is a place that many people go to save their country and put others before themselves. In war, you see it all. Death. Happiness. Sadness. Many people don’t know what war is really like until it is experienced. I don’t have a lot to say because I haven’t experienced war myself self I have just heard stories. Some about the horrific memories that stuck with people. Some about the bonding they made with others who are fighting for the same way that they were.
In war today when people come home excited because they have been away from family and friends for so long. The excitement that is brought to the family is huge because it has been such a long time. Many men and women who serve in the army get the experience to go home and surprise their family. But many people don’t get that experience as well they either passed away or like Mary Anne. Mary Anne didn’t get to experience this because she was so infatuated with War and the outcome of it.
People who survive war get to tell the stories of those who didn’t make it through the war. This is important to the person who got to go home because they were fortunate enough to survive. This changes many people’s lives in their future because they have a new outlook on life. Along with the fact that they got home to their families safely, they realize that every moment counts in life so don’t take anything for granted.
The picture I chose below shows how important it was for this mom to get home to her daughter safely. The tears in the mom’s eyes show the true heart she has and the joy she has when seeing her daughter waiting for her when coming home. Mary Anne never had this experience because she had a different outlook on the war that others didn’t see.
