Speaking Of Courage And Notes

O’Brian in his book is trying to repeat a pattern of truth and a fictional way of looking at terrifying things. In this chapter, “Speaking of courage and notes” it constantly shows ways how the war are affecting these people before and after the war including what people see war is supposed to be terrifying or an idea of war. Although What I noticed in this chapter is that it affects each person differently either if they speak or do not speak about it, it still affects the soldier. O’Brian in the two chapters “notes” and “speaking of courage” deals with the guilt he has so he writes stories about his fellow soldiers (coping method). Although by putting these stories down on paper it still creates that thought for him. Behind the affect of “Notes” the author is trying to communicate to the reader that people are/ could be affected by war even though they do or do not talk about it. Some even wrote it to remember it in a non terrifying way. I learned a couple things out of this chapter and I realized this chapter includes the background of a story and learning what parts are true and what ones are not true is there is a difference between truth and fictional “fantasy”way of looking at things, a war story isn’t always true by looking at it, there are deeper meanings in these stories,  there is a difference between truth and making up things that may seem true which can look true and that is what O’Brian did in his book to make up the fact stories can bring up and reflect the horror and beauty of what each of these men were described in the stories everyday. O’Brian wants us the readers to see the Called story truth or happening truth
