Delving Into the Power of Reading

Delving Into the Power of Reading

While reading begins as a method of exploration and wonderment for all, oftentimes, it develops into a peaceful and relaxing activity, one that is practiced as the hours of the evening fade into nightfall. It simultaneously calms the mind and body, and helps us to further our understanding of the world in which we live. Furthermore, as we mature through the fundamental years of our childhood, reading is simply a way to comprehend the intricacies of life, as these ideas manifest themselves into our youthful and carefree minds.

However, as we continue to grow and evolve, reading becomes an outlet of reflection in terms of our inner thoughts and insights. As our eyes scan the eloquent prose that extends across the page, we learn to embrace our deepest feelings, learn from past experiences, and thrive in our continuous learning process. As words begin to fill the blank, smooth canvas of the page, a story is told for all to appreciate and follow, allowing one’s imagination to roam free. This feeling of fantasy and nostalgia is the same as that of a child who first discovers the boundless possibilities of reading, and all it has to offer. With eyes wide in wonderment, and an expression of innocence and awe, I can remember how it felt to be truly captivated by a story. Due to this, reading began to resonate with me in a special way, as I truly began to embrace and appreciate everything it provides and symbolizes.

What was once just a way of understanding others, gently evolved into an outlet of deep reflection, a symbol of growth throughout life, and a reminder that the imagination is limitless if one allows it to be free. In another light, this internal evaluation of the gifts reading presents, subconsciously allows us all to evolve in our own way, whether it be in small endeavors, or large milestones. For me, as I navigate through the salient years of high school, reading is something I treasure in the moments I feel incredibly overwhelmed, or the times when sleep is not easily forthcoming. I treasure the moments in which reading prompts the insightful reflection on moments I had not thought to revisit, or rekindle. Finally, I treasure the role reading has played in my evaluation of the outside world, and how it has helped me develop in my thoughts and reflections, as each day has evolved into night.
