PERIODT.

There’s a new trend/ phenomenon occurring across the teenage world. You might be familiar with it if you have been spending your time on TikTok- an app that allows people to share short videos of their own. It started with a video from an 18 year old TikToker named Caroline Majcher, stating that “Guys are so clueless. So today I was talking about periods with my guy friends and just explaining some stuff to them, and they had no idea that girls eat their tampon after they’re done with it to reabsorb all the blood that they just lost.” Some girls posted videos of their guy friends reacting to the original video. The boys’ reactions were all basically the same. Their jaws dropped and their eyes grew big with shock.

This seems like a normal, harmless joke, doesn’t it? However, girls in the comments of the videos started providing seemingly logical arguments to this statement. Some told stories of the consequences of them not reabsorbing their blood: they became so iron deficient that they had to be rushed to the hospital and put on supplements. A few comments said that the need to reabsorb blood is why girls go into the bathroom together and take so long because girls have to help each other out to consume the blood. A fair amount of girls expressed their concerns of how this was not taught in health class and a lot of girls started recommending the ways they reabsorb their blood; recommendations include putting tampons in tea, drinking directly from diva cups, and putting the tampon in the freezer for a nice little crunch.

More videos surfaced after the first one with girls expressing their concerns that men don’t know we have to consume our blood. The best argument that I found on TikTok was that we lose vital nutrients during our period, and since we lose so much blood, we have to find ways to get the nutrients back into our bodies. As more comments and videos popped up about the subject, boys started believing what the girls were telling them. They even started making their own videos showing them asking their moms or girl friends asking whether or not they reabsorb their blood. These girls always responded with yes. Even more interesting was that girls were beginning to believe what others were saying. People began arguing whether or not girls really do consume their blood.

As the situation escalated, popular sites like Buzzfeed reported on the subject. Buzzfeed called the whole thing a hoax. Other websites reported the situation as a prank. However, girls started denouncing these sites and called boys who believe that girls reabsorbing their blood is a prank clowns, with the clown emoji. Isn’t it amazing how clueless guys are when it comes to periods?

So, what is the truth then? Do girls really consume their blood after a period, or is this just a huge prank? That’s one secret I’ll never tell. You know you love me.

XOXO,

your favorite blogger 🙂
