So why is there so much hype for this app Tik Tok?

Where is there so much hype for this app Tik Tok?

Whether you’re old or young I guarantee you’ve heard the term Tik Tok somewhere. Tik Tok is a relatively new social media platform that allows one to watch, share, and create videos. It seemed to have replaced the old app Music.ly which had the same purpose, but Tik Tok seems to be thriving a lot more than music.ly ever did. The unique thing about the app is the “for you” page which is how everyone gets their moment of Tik Tok “fame” (aka receiving thousands of likes on your video). When you go into the app you don’t have to find people to follow, the page provides you with a neverending feed of a plethora of videos that can range from 3 likes- 1 million, so a lot of people have the chance to be seen by anyone scrolling through. Most people put popular hashtags in their caption to make it on the for you page. It’s amazing how anyone can see your video and if it’s good enough it can go viral. The more people that like/comment on your video the more likely your video is to show up on a lot of peoples for you page. According to the article “The many benefits of Tik Tok, “It is absolutely mind-boggling to think about the fact that it is possible to go viral and not even know it, but anything is possible on the platform. TikTok fame is subjectively easy to come by, with many clips gaining attention only a few hours after being uploaded. There are so many normal, everyday people who become TikTok influencers in a matter of days” (The Butler Collegian). Although one shouldn’t rely on being Tik Tok famous to lead them into a career, cause most times it doesn’t, I think it’s fascinating that everyone has an equal opportunity to have a small moment of fame.

Personally, I do really like the app. Some people take it too seriously and do weird intense staring into the camera creepy vibes, or just try too hard, but I love those who just make funny content. Most kids on the app are in high school or college too so it’s really relatable to that audience and it’s just a ton of kids trying to make others laugh. It also can help with the expansion of certain artists/songs as the apps the main purpose is lip-syncing.

In today’s day and age, things are often taken too seriously, and jokes can only go so far. In Tik Tok people kinda just joke about whatever and it’s refreshing to know there are still people that don’t get so offended so quickly (obviously certain subjects such as extreme racism are unacceptable). I know a lot of people shit on the app, and I understand that cause there can be some pretty weird stuff on it, but once you get the app you can’t help but scroll and laugh. There will always be at least one video that makes you laugh, and eventually, you might be scrolling on the for you page for 2 hours….which is doable trust me.

Obviously Tik Tok isn’t the right fit for everyone and no matter what I say it simply might just not be found funny to some. Although, I advise those who haven’t given the app a chance to download it and see if you like it after a couple of days.

Tik Tok is one of my favorite apps right now for many reasons. One is how relatable it is, all most every video I see is created by someone around my age and it shows how we are all so alike. The FYP is made based on things you liked previously, so almost every video is enjoyable. I also use it as a stress reliever because it is easy to use and a quick way to get a much-needed laugh. However, it can be dangerous when I need to study for a test and a 10 min break turns into an hour break.
