Why This is Arguably The Worst Season Of The Bachelor (S24)

****If you are not caught up with the Week 8 Episode from this past Monday (2/17), this blog post will include some spoilers for you****

I feel pretty confident about posting this because per social media (and the people I discuss the Bachelor with at school), it seems that about 75% of Bachelor watchers agree with my argument here, so chances are if you’re reading this, you do as well.

It is honestly a tad bit disappointing that I can even be writing a blog on this topic when Peter Weber (aka Pilot Pete), the cutie that all of America knows and fell in love with during Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette, is our Bachelor. Although I will never get the chance to meet him, he seems to have a top-notch first impression when you combine his genuine character and adorable face. Nonetheless, I think his descent (pun intended) in the eyes of reality TV watchers in America began on the first episode of his season of the Bachelor.

A short rundown on how Peter became a fan favorite and got to where he is today: After he made it through the first couple of rounds on the Bachelorette, he struck the eyes of watchers because of his awesome characteristics and attractiveness, as stated before. He made it to the Final Three. A large majority of watchers wanted him to win it all. Hannah sent him home during the Final Three Rose Ceremony *insert everyone’s genuinely shocked reactions*. He was announced as the Bachelor a couple of months later. Most people were ecstatic.

HANNAH BROWN

Okay! Now you are essentially caught up with the background if you haven’t seen the show. When the first episode aired on January 6th, Hannah Brown stepped out of the limo to meet him, as if she was joining the show again. Literally everyone went crazy, the other contestants on the show especially, but all of the watchers as well, because you never see this kind of thing. Turns out she was just wishing him luck, but it never really sat well with anyone because it was believed that they both still had feelings for each other when the Bachelorette ended, which reportedly took Peter a VERY long time to get over.

Hannah Brown + Peter (Episode 1 of The Bachelor)

THEN, in the very next episode, Hannah appears again as the director of one of Peter’s group dates (side note: he did organize to have her run the date… so it was his choice). During that episode, they have a long emotional talk about their feelings towards each other and Peter eventually ends up inviting her on the show as a contestant. Literally a wild roller coaster for the audience. But at this point, most everybody is annoyed because his time with Hannah has passed, his heart should be more mature and open to all these new girls, and we should be watching him progress his relationship with them instead of an “old girlfriend”. While this is where the Hannah drama ends, this is most definitely not the end of Peter’s mistakes.

UNSURE WHAT HE WANTS

While we can definitely cut him some slack on this topic considering he is trying to find his partner for life, he still honestly is the worst at making decisions ever. Like ever. He lets himself get so caught up in the drama between the girls that it seriously affects his decisions towards who to let go, who to keep, and what level of trust to have for the girls.

The most obvious example would be with a girl named Alayah who essentially just caused beef between the other contestants and made Peter doubt his own intuition. She acted fake in front of the cameras and fake in front of Peter, and while that would be incredibly difficult to see and understand from Peter’s point of view, he was so wishy-washy with his decisions. There were about three FULL episodes on the Alayah drama, which gets incredibly annoying because he had no idea what to do. When he finally sent her home, she ended up coming back, crashing a group date to talk to him, AND HER GIVES HER A ROSE TO COME BACK ON THE SHOW. HUH????????? And in the same episode, you probably guessed it, he sends her back home because of the drama it causes. Peter dude, just decide and move on.

There are many instances where he takes things too far instead of cutting relationships off that need to be cut off. Personally, I think it is because he is not emotionally stable enough to be the Bachelor, especially after Hannah Brown broke his heart. But another issue with this drama is how it ultimately affects his relationships with truly amazing contestants. The entire Alayah situation caused him to doubt his trust with Victoria P, who was honestly too good for him to begin with. She ends up being sent home as well after their relationship takes this tumble.

BLIND

As I briefly mentioned before, his actions on the show lead me to believe that he has problems making decisions for himself and is quite unstable emotionally. He looks past things that should be at the forefront of his mind and focuses on unimportant things instead.

His relationship with Victoria F is the most prime example of this. She was a fan favorite for a very long time, but now she has made it to the Final Three and most people are fed up with it. Peter has wasted multiple one-on-one dates that could go to other girls in order to find clarity in their relationship. Victoria F cannot express her feelings towards him, much less truly show him how she feels. She is blatantly unready for a deep relationship like this. She fights with Peter all the time and is so defensive of everything he says, BUT HE HAS KEPT HER ON THE SHOW THUS FAR. Their relationship is obviously weaker than the other girls, which is why it makes no sense that she is still here. When Peter was supposed to meet her family, he kindly confronted her about an issue that arose and she attacked him for “attacking her” and immediately started crying. He never even met her family. Essentially, she keeps pushing him away and for some reason, it brings Peter to like her even more. Crazy.

As he spends so much time on drama and weak relationships, he misses out on some truly amazing girls that are competing, most notably Madison. She is the favorite for probably 90% of watchers, has always held the lead, and is a truly genuine person that has stayed out of the drama. But he doesn’t give her enough credit for that!!!! The way he acts towards her just makes it seem like she is yet another girl that is too good for him.

Madison + Peter (look how happy and carefree!!!)

As you can probably tell, I have quite a few of my own, very passionate, opinions about the show and why Peter has been the worst Bachelor. In the end, this is Peter looking for his wife and he can do whatever he wants, but sometimes his cuteness justtttt does not compensate for his actions. The next episode airs Monday, 2/24, and I am thoroughly intrigued by what will occur with the final three girls. The final outcome, though, might have me writing another passionate blog about where old Pilot Pete messed up.

Feel free to share your opinions with me because honestly, I have so much fun discussing it!
