I NEED HELP

I am an absolute sucker for dad shoes.

White sneakers are still popular years after the Fila disruptors days for good reason. And chunky white sneakers? Even better. Versatile, durable, and *vintage,* I solemnly believe, though Google suggests otherwise, that chunky white sneakers are still in fashion; even if they technicallyyyy aren’t by today’s standards, they will be. I’m pretty sure there’s a dad sneaker hate group out there, but it’s time for chunky white sneakers to get the respect they deserve.

This brings me to the title of this blog: I NEED HELP (in more ways than one, but we can talk about that later).

My shoes are kinda gross. Decorated by filth and soles well-loved, I think it’s time for a change.

So again, I need your help.

Taking any suggestions for any sneakers, (white or not white, chunky or not chunky but still preferably platform???)

And before anyone suggests Air Force 1’s, I’d like to voice my opinion on them.

Air Force 1s (Chunky white sneakers?)

Let me start off by saying that I don’t have a distaste for white air force 1s. A vintage classic. Sexy even. The pixels? *chef’s kiss*

They’re a crowd favorite, which is… good?

  1. Faith – I have been on a similar quest for an everyday, non-basic sneaker, and I have not one, not two, but SEVERAL recommendations for you. First, the shoes I’m asking for this Christmas: the Nike M2K Tekno. They will provide the same amount of glorious chunkiness that Fila Disruptors do, but in a slightly more subdued manner. If you are looking for something a bit different, but will go with just about every outfit, GET THE CONVERSE LUGGED! I cannot stress this enough; they are the perfect shoe. The Lugged is a classic style with a bit of a twist due to the inch-thick platform. Finally, if you can bite the bullet and agree to be somewhat basic, the Air Max 90 is a wonderful option. They have a bit of a platform to them, which I always appreciate because I am very insecure about my height. I wish you the best in your sneaker hunting endeavors. <3

  2. I have 3 pairs of shoes. One destroyed, utterly and completely. There are no soles in the shoe, the side of one is completely just ripped so that when I step into the shoe and adjust a bit, I’m wearing the shoe as an anklet. Another is just a black pair of Nike’s. And the last is an old-man’s pair of dress shoes. So I doubt I should be one to really comment on anything shoe related because, well, I’m not gonna lie, I don’t really care that much. But the fact that there are people that heavily just hate white sneakers, even if they’re dad sneakers and chunky, is just come on. Is there a way to clean the shoes that would be cheaper than buying another one? However, if the shoes are that destroyed, I’d recommend some white shoes. Yes I do not know any kind of shoe particularly, so I am likely no help in this situation, just a sort of cheer-leader-ish saying kinda, ‘yeah go, these people suck, get some shoes.’ A very lame chant, but I think it may be best that I don’t give any advice shoes-wise considering my history and lack of taste.

  3. Faith – I will admit I was never a huge fan of the chunky filas, but I do looooove the dad Reeboks (like the club c’s) and new balances (like the 327s or 524s) and want them very badly.

I’ve also been looking at the converse hikes and might add them to my christmas list. I think those count as chunky sneakers? I showed them to my sisters and they did not like them because they were “too chunky” but I think there’s something about them that looks cool and I think they would style differently than normal converse.

In regards to other shoe recommendations that are not specifically dad shoes or chunky, I would recommend platform converse; I think they look very nice and give you the height of the converse hike but without the chunkiness. I also really like the Nike daybreaks/challengers, they look somewhat similar to the air max 90’s but are a little different. I think the 270’s are nice because they’re offered in many colors, but I will say if you want those to try them on first because the heel in the back makes your feet jam against the front of the shoe and you will probably need to size up.

  4. I will say that shoe searching is one of the greatest feats known to man kind. Finding the perfect sneaker for every outfit is near impossible and I’m still on that quest myself. Unfortunately, I still wear my yellowed, beaten up Filas in shame sometimes but that’s besides the point. A shoe that I’ve been eyeing for quite some time are the New balance 550s particularly in green. Though they are somewhat basic, I honestly haven’t seen that many people wearing them. They’re like air forces but better. Furthermore, though I am a bit biased, the adidas forum lows are also a good option. From personal experience, they’re extremely comfortable and the color ways are super unique and very versatile. Though they’re not platformed, they do give me a little boost height-wise. So overall, a good 9/10. Finally, Nike Dunk lows. There’s a bunch of different colors out there and they’re just very enhanced air forces in my opinion. All of the ones I’ve seen can go with any outfit and just adds that extra touch. Overall, these are just my personal faves at the moment and I’m still searching for the perfect sneaker!
