My name is Daniel Standage, I am the youngest of five. I have three older sisters and one older brother. I am an uncle of five, I have three nephews, one niece and one is on their way.
I participate in several sports through school and clubs. Through the school, I play Ultimate Frisbee, and through clubs, I downhill ski race and play basketball. I joined the Ultimate Frisbee team last year, I started the season unable to throw the frisbee the right way. As the season progressed I got a starting roll and this year I expect to have a bigger impact on my team. I started skiing when I was four years old, however I didn’t start racing until I was eleven, this put me at a disadvantage compared to my competition. After my first year I hated it, I hated losing. I was to the point that I wanted to quit, but as the next season started to approach I decided to give it another chance, I’m glad I did. This next season I became more confident in my abilities. The seasons following I improved exponetialy. I’ve improved so much that I was invited to state finals and junior nationals the past two years. Since moving to Naperville it has been hard for me to continue my skiing, however I was invited to participate in New York state finals as a pre-runner. Since moving to Naperville I’ve picked up basketball. I started by just shooting around in my driveway, but that turned into me joining a league that includes ages sixteen to forty-five. It has been a struggle to excel in this, however it has been a lot of fun so far and I plan to continue as years go on.
During my free time I love hanging out with my friends, we love to just drive around and explore places we’ve never been. We also love going out to eat. Whenever we hang out we always go out to a cheap restaurant then return to someone’s house to play videogames. One of my favorite things to do is watch movies, whether it be a drive-in or just a movie from Netflix.
I also love taking my truck off-roading, it is so fun to get the truck all dirty then cleaning it off. While I lived in New York, my family owned a farm. On the farm my responsibility was to drive the truck, transporting wagons full of hay to our customers. Another one of my responsibilities was mowing, tedding, and raking the hay with the tractor. This was my favorite job, driving a tractor is surprisingly mesmerizing. Going from row to row of hay watching it disappear behind you.
A big part of my life is my religion, ever since I was born I’ve attended The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It creates a great community of family and friends. When I moved to the Chicago area I immediately felt welcome. I see this in my friends’ lives as well, I have friends that just moved from Arizona to Wheaton, my friends and I are striving to make them feel as welcome as I did.
