How you should Choose music

I wouldn’t call myself a hipster or anything, but I really just don’t like most mainstream music. To me there is something off putting about music that is either too polished or fits the convention of what the general populous would like. Given that I don’t like most “big” bands for the longest time it was very difficult for me to find any music that I really liked. I had a couple bands up my sleeve that appealed to me, and I knew what I wanted in music, but looking online always just showed the top results, which was something I generally didn’t want. I felt kind of stuck, listening to the same music over and over, and not being able to find anything else. I was kind of like a little kid, sure I loved the toys I had, but if I just went to the right store I knew I could find something that I NEEDED, that would outweigh all the other toys I had… For at least a good twenty minutes.

As is the norm for these blogs we will take a brief intermission to give you the fun fact for the blog. Did you know that Bananas are curved because they try to grow towards the sun? Now even if you don’t like that blog at least you can say that you learned something!

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled program. I finally found an…. alright  system for finding new music. It is very inconsistent and relies completely on chance, but it sometimes works. Low success rates are completely fine because once you find the right song, or band it will last you a good while.\

Now to the method to find this music. Go to spotify, type in an obscure word, something not used in every sentence, and then either go down to around the 5h artist and listen to one of their songs. It is far from science, but it gets results, especially if you are looking for smaller bands. Through this I’ve found some great bands, right now my favorite is called “Elevator Fight Club”. They have perfect music to just chill out and vibe to, definitely hard to beat.

One thing that I have noticed from using this strategy is that some of the coolest Indie bands have some very obscure names. The kinds of people who want to be very different than whatever is out there will try to set themselves out from the competition from the get go. What this translates to is the more obscure the word is, the better chance you have of finding a good (in my opinion) Indie band.

Now if you are looking for music and you just have a nagging urge of “I really want to listen to music but I really want my favorite blogger to have played in the band” as most people do, I would definitely recommend Calvin Ives. He is an absolutely great singer and writer and I’ve heard subpar things about the fill-in drummer they had that one time. I personally think that smaller bands have a lot of character and I think that Calvin Ives could be a great introduction to a small band feel. If I had to choose a song to start on, my personal favorite is “Madonna of the rocks”, the lyrics are pretty sick, and it fueled my interest in poetry and philosophy alike. In conclusion Listen a band that I got to play with once, it was a really cool experience, Calvin Ives.

Ode to the Great Goose

Sonnet meticulously written by David Krawczyk

Edit: made it a Shakespearean sonnet.

Ode to the Great Goose

My lofty goose, you beckon my hand write.

Methinks how you will migrate, soar and fly,

Nesting in my mindday and through the night,

Silent, I dream about the long-necked, aye.

Shall I weigh thee to deflated balloons?

You are far more lasting and satisfied.

We wait your settle for next joyous June,

Then summer shall have its majestic guide.

How do I love you? I will list the part.

I love your beautiful beak, honk and wings.

Thought of your endowed honk fills my warm heart.

My love of returns is for all the springs.

Now I watch you go with a heart stone cold,

My joyous companions as I grow old .
