beauty in poverty

This collage shows the beauty that we miss while looking at poverty. Even though most of the time we see it as bad, some of when see it or hear about me we start to appreciate everything we have. Pictures like this bring out the appreciation part of us, that at times we miss in our ordinary daily lives.

Heroes in people

Everyone has a hero in their lives, some have a fictional  or a real life person but we all have one. Elroy does a lot for O’Brien that he even proceeds to call him his “hero of his life”. He took O’Brien in when he wanted to leave so he won’t go to war. Another big thing he did for O’Brien was that he was quiet and didn’t judge O’Brien for his decision.

Elroy is a hero to O’Brien for many reason but one of them is, because he gave him shelter, food, and work while he stayed there with him. “He might’ve sheltered a stray”(O’Brien 47), this is important to know because O’Brien considered himself a “stray” until Elroy took him for at least six days. In a way we can see the empathy Elroy felt for O’Brien, because he offered him money when he was leaving but O’Brien didn’t accept it but he still left him the money.Elroy probably thought that he will need the money at some point and gave him it. In this part you can see the type of person Elroy is. The type of person he is can be described as caring. In the part where he comes in we can see the caring side about him.

Another big thing Elroy does for O’Brien that’s the biggest thing is, he stayed quiet and didn’t judge him for his decision he took. Even though Elroy knows exactly what O’Brien is doing, he he keeps quiet and doesn’t say anything to him. BY Elroy doing so he is showing that he can be a trust worthy person. If it was any other person there is a chance that they could’ve said something, or just judge him. We can also see another characteristic of him, that he can be trusted with stuff. In the book it states “Without questions, without any words at all”(O’Brien 46). This statement is telling us the readers, that he didn’t question him or just say anything. It is mentioned at times that Elroy just stayed silent. O’Brien appreciated the fact that he was silent, because he already felt guilty.  If Elroy asked him questions or brought it up then he was going to feel worse than he already was feeling. If someone is doing something they already feel guilty for, and a person comes and asks them or brings it up then it is going to make any person feel worse about it. That wasn’t the case necessarily for O’Brien thanks to Elroy.

O’Brien’s hero is Elroy, he is a big part in his life and if it wasn’t for him O’Brien would’ve had a different story to carry. Everyone has a hero in their lives, it all differs in what way the hero is but everyone has one. A hero can mean and do a lot of different things. There is some people that they say they don’t have one, and their hero is themselves but everyone should be a hero either to themselves or to another person. I feel like we all at times also need an Elroy in our lives.

About me

I’m a junior at Naperville North High School, I’m in the debate team. I joined the debate team because I like talking/debating on political topics. Also reading about politics is a thing i enjoy doing on my free time. Ever since i was a freshman, i have enjoy learning about politics.

My interests are: reading poetry, writing poetry, playing tennis, and also like i mentioned learning about political things in the world. In my freshman year, when i transferred to North one of my teachers got me into poetry, and ever since then i started enjoying it and i have collection of poetry books. My favorite author is R.H Sin. I started liking tennis back in middle school, but i don’t really want to join the team for the school.

I’m a very family oriented person. I like being with my family a lot, because being around them brings me a really peaceful and genuine happiness. I’m the only child, so as most people think yeah i am spoiled. Some of my family lives in Mexico, and some here in the United States. I do talk to my family in Mexico, and i see them when i can but it sucks at times that I can’t go to their house or see them as often as i wished i did. The person in my family that i’m closest to is my grandma, because ever since i was younger she has always help me with anything if she can. Even one time she made me a dress, and to this day i still have it because that dress is special because my grandma made it for me.

Since i’m Mexican, i do prefer eating Mexican food. One of my favorite meals i like to eat is something called “mole”, it is chicken with this sweet but spicy sauce. Some people make the sauce spicy or sweet, but i prefer it when it is both. I think the person that makes the best mole, is my stepdad. He makes it exactly  how i like it, not too sweet but not too spicy. In my opinion mole is the best food in Mexican culture. Other than mole i like to eat sushi, if i can eat it everyday i would.

Growing up i used to want to be a physical therapist, because i saw how much they make and i thought that was a lot of money and just jumped to it. As time went on and i started growing up, i started to realized that i’m a big believer in justice for people and lawyers help bring justice. When i started watch lawyers in action, it got me so happy because i want to help people get justice. I want to go to Bradley University in Peoria, ever since i started looking into colleges Bradley drew my attention because of how much people talk about it and say it’s a good college. Overall, i want to go to Bradley and i hope i do get in but i have to see what the future has in store for me.
