Life of a Junior

Who am I?

I am a teen, born and raised in Naperville,Illinois with the assistance of my Mom and Dad along with the company of 2 sisters and an older brother. One sister being my twin, the other sister a 10 year old who enjoys doing her best to ruin my life, and my brother a man who just graduated college from the University of Missouri.

I am an athlete, in the winter I enjoy playing basketball competitively for the school, playing with teamates I have known since the YMCA days. It is my favorite sport; I love the rush of adrenaline and pride that courses through my body after my team or I make a big play. Close behind is baseball, in which I have fun playing during the spring sports season with a few of my best friends. Roaming the outfield, stepping up to the plate, and bonding with teammates on bus rides or in dugouts gets me excited to play. The fact that the game is played outdoors is icing on the cake.

Yes the outdoors; I am an outdoors enthusiast. To me, a spot in which the sun shines on my face and I hear the birds chirp is an ideal location to be in. Oftentimes I go on journeys in the outdoors with my family, typically during vacations. At our beach house in Cape San Blas, Florida, I often venture out on a kayak at sunset. In Colorado during one of my family’s summer trips, we went hiking, whitewater rafting, and ziplining. It is one of my most favorite times in my life because of the mix of tranquility and intensity.

They say that you are what you eat; therefore I am an American. Yes, American food is known to be greasy and unhealthy for you in the long run, but I can’t resist. I could go for a nice bacon cheesburger and bottomless fries at Red Robin on any day of the week. Pizza, burgers, hotdogs, any and all things termed, “american” and I will eat it.

I am an engineer, math is one of the few classes that I look forward to throughout my day. When I am in math class, it seems as if time goes by much faster than any other period. I like solving problems, I am stubborn and persist on the tough ones and I get in moods where I become fascinated by concepts or formulas.

Most of all, I am a competitor and hardworker. Being involved physically for a sport almost year-round requires grit and mental toughness. Whether it be waking up early forĀ  a morning practice, or studying a playbook the night before a game, it is necessary to be at your best and have the right mindset while doing it. Sports instills in me the ability to work my hardest, love the process, and to set goals for myself. I admire the way that sports has shaped who I am as a junior at Naperville North High School because the positive attributes it yields are useful, and will be useful, for many stages in my life.
