Sensei’s fist is shooting out towards my stomach, I breathe out and extend my arm to block his punch. As soon as my arm makes contact, I tense up and use all my strength to push his arm out of the way. My body shakes as I block him. “COME ON ANNITA!!!” Sensei yells. I feel Sensei throw a kick to my stomach. I hold my breath as feel I the impact pass through my body. Almost there, I’m half way through. I can do this. I turn my body as Sensei throws another punch. I ignore the sensation and put my foot forward, moving into the next move.
Alright, in that snapshot of my life, Sensei Jeremy Talbott my seem like the hardcore karate master everyone is afraid of upsetting. I must say, I did feel somewhat afraid of my Sensei during my belt test as well. However, my Sensei is not hardcore and terrifying 24/7. My Sensei has the biggest heart and the challenges that he has puts me to has truly built me as a person. Sensei Jeremy Talbott is one of the most influential people in my life inside and outside the dojo. He is the one person I will never stop following on facebook because he shares some of the most powerful quotes that anyone can live by, not just those in karate.
Forgiveness and Understanding
“ No matter how heavy the chains of hate and anger bind us, the key of forgiveness and understanding can free us”
Sensei Jeremy’s posts bring positivity to my life. Everyone has those days where they feel angry or upset at the world, including me. Pouring our energy into these negative thoughts does us no good and often hinders us from pursuing our goals. The following quote shared by my Sensei reminds me to let go of frustrations I may encounter and forgive and understand those who may have frustrated me so I can free myself of negativity and continue my life in happiness and peace.
Now, if you ever experience a frustrating day, you should pull up Sensei Jeremy’s facebook page because his quotes will definitely brighten your mood. His quotes will encourage you to let go of the bad and focus on the good. Feeling less frustrated will give you the power to seize the day and help you resolve conflicts and challenges in a calm manner.
Motivation
“ Your success is driven by your effort. Your effort is driven by your motivation. Your motivation is driven by your dream. Your dream is conceived by you. Remember that it starts and ends with you and if you are not closer to your success then the only person to blame resides in the mirror”
Sensei’s quotes are THE most motivational quotes I have read. What he has to say about motivation helps me carry on throughout the day and overcome the challenges of my life whether it be at home, in school or in karate. Quotes like this have helped me stay motivated throughout college applications, belt tests, and the toughest courses in school. My Sensei has taught me both in person and through social media that I can achieve anything so long as believe in myself and put in the effort to achieve what I want to achieve.
Speaking of school, Senioritis is not an uncommon occurrence during the second semester and it is really easy to feel bored doing school work during this era of our lives, however grades still matter to a certain extent and it’s good to FINISH STRONG. Reading Sensei’s motivational quotes will put you back on your feet and keep you motivated to do well academically until graduation.
I also wanted to emphasize that his quotes won’t just cure senioritis but they can also cure a lack of motivation for anyone, whether it be related to work or sports etc. Sometimes, the bridge between success is a determined mindset.
Building Character
“ Character is not built on how far you push yourself when you have stamina, but how far you are willing to push yourself when one that stamina is gone”
On days that I feel truly burnt out, quotes like this really drive me to push myself and bring out the strength in my character. This is a quote I keep in mind whenever I feel mentally drained from studying or physically tired from working out. Sensei has taught me to push beyond my limits to make my dreams a reality and become a stronger individual.
That being said, we all feel weak or vulnerable sometimes and this feeling can drag us down from work, school, and our personal lives. But remember, tough situations build strong people. Reading Sensei’s quotes will provide you with the inspiration to jump over hurdles when they seem too high. Once you jump over the hurdle, you will feel like you can dominate the world and you will build a more resilient character as well.

I cannot express how fortunate I am to have Sensei Jeremy Talbott as my instructor because he has taught me some of the most important lessons in forgiveness, motivation, and character. Sensei has built me into a stronger person and pushed me to be my best self.
