This is for all those indecisive people out there, like me. Trust me, I know the feeling. After just finishing a show, you’re at a loss of what to do with your life. You’re sitting browsing through Netflix, looking at show after show, trying to decide which to pick and start watching. It seems impossible. But I am here to help! You need not look any further because the perfect show for you to watch (or rewatch) is Vampire Diaries.
I’m writing this to hopefully share my obsession with some of you, for those who have already watched Vampire Diaries, and to get those who haven’t watched it yet completely hooked on it. Now I’m just putting this out there: I haven’t finished Vampire Diaries yet. I’m just starting season 7 so please, I beg of you, do not spoil it for me. I have two seasons left. But this also makes me the perfect person to write this review because I literally cannot spoil the ending of the series considering I don’t even know it myself. I’m far enough into the show to be able to give some insight, but I will not give any spoilers.
To start, I honestly had no idea so many people watch Vampire Diaries. Like seriously, just about all of my friends have and the second I mentioned I was starting it they completely freaked out. This also makes it difficult though, because many of them have accidentally given away parts of it. The general consensus among my peers is that it is an amazing show that really deserves all of the attention it can possibly get, especially Damon Salvatore, but I’ll leave him for later.
Vampire Diaries has been very popular ever since it came out in 2009, with about 3.6 million viewers throughout the first season’s release. The main pull throughout the series is a love triangle between Damon, Stefan, and Elena. The whole issue is that Damon and Stefan are actually brothers. But, in my opinion, there shouldn’t even be a competition. Damon, hands down, will always be the one for me. The internet seems to agree as well, with one poll having 56% vote for Damon and only 34% for Stefan, with the rest undecided. The rest of the polls I have looked at have similar outcomes, with Damon in the clear lead.
This past week I was out sick and the only thing I did was sit on my couch and watch Damon Salvatore live out his life on my screen (which maybe was not the best idea because I started to think Vampire Diaries was my real life and that my real life was just some weird tv show). I believe that the world’s obsession with Damon has something to do with the mindset of all these girls watching the show. He is portrayed as the “bad boy,” while his brother Stefan Salvatore is seen as the good and righteous one.
There is a definite obsession with the whole bad boy vibe. Touching on the psychology of this idea, it basically has something to do with the allure of taking a risk. Many women seek more thrilling relationships, and bad boys tend to give them that, no matter how terrible he may be for the woman.
Vampire Diaries has even swept completely over social media, with TikTok and Instagram especially. There are multiple sounds used repeatedly in TikTok, one of the most popular ones being of Elena having a complete breakdown while Damon attempts to comfort her (Sidenote, I now cannot watch that specific scene without dying of laughter just because of TikTok). Damon and Stefan are again all over Instagram, especially my Explore page.
Many guys are swayed away from Vampire Diaries, and honestly, they shouldn’t be. Vampire Diaries is for everyone. The romance parts may be a little more appealing to the girls out there watching, but there are so many different plots throughout the series that there is bound to be something for everyone in there, such as the plotline of vampire hunters.
Overall, I love Vampire Diaries and I really tried my hardest not to make this only about Damon because I love him the most and it was very difficult to do. If you’ve already watched Vampire Diaries and for some reason do not want to rewatch it, or if you want more (!!), you should check out the series The Originals
if you haven’t heard of it already. It is a spin-off of Vampire Diaries, and you already know which show is queued for me after I finish Vampire Diaries. I highly recommend watching, it truly will make you question what reality actually is once you get sucked in enough.

I recently finished a TV show called Psych, which is basically about a young crime consultant, Shawn Spence, with heightened observational skills and a eidetic memory who pretends to be a psychic. Shawn and his sidekick, Ghee Buttersnaps AKA The Heater, solve crimes for the Santa Barbara Police department. I have hitherto been searching for an interesting TV to watch and I think that this Damon Salvatore man you wrote about interests me greatly. I agree with the women who like bad boys, they are just so exciting! Thank you so much for sharing, I am very excited to go home and binge this show for hours on end! Have you ever watched Twilight? I think it might interests you. I have not read the books, but the movies were very hot.
I DEFINITELY relate to this post because I TOO have an obsession with the one and only Damon Salvatore. I agree that he is the best character and he is more favorable over Stefan. I also agree with the notion you made that women want more of a “bad guy” because they want more a risk and thrill in life. Literally the definition of Damon Salvatore is bad boy. I think that social media like TikTok and Instagram have expanded the show and its characters, making it a lot more popular and known. But I feel a lot of people only know the characters and don’t actually watch the show which is really upsetting because it’s actually a good show. I like how you added your own experience of watching the Vampire Diaries and how much you love it because I feel like it adds a lot voice to your blog and makes it very relatable. The one thing I would add to your blog is a thought provoking question to kind of leave the readers thinking. Also, I would add a little more research or more statistics about the reviews the show is getting or how many women prefer “bad guys” over “good guys”. Otherwise, I loved how relatable your blog is and how I could easily connect to it. There’s a lot of voice as well which again really helps the reader connect to your blog.
