Courage can mean a lot of different things, but my definition of courage is not being afraid of something that you might get judge for or sanding up for yourself, or even being nice to people when no one is looking. My dad always told me since I was younger to always stand up for yourself and for others around you in any situation, and not to be afraid of something that scares you the most. My dad has always helped me through any problems I’ve had and given me the best advice to over come them and make the problem better than it was.
In my eyes the person with the a tremendous amount of courage has always been my dad, without him I wouldn’t be who I am today. Iv’e always be able to stand up for myself and for all my friends, Courage is something that will always be a good thing to have or a good thing to start building for yourself.
In the book O’Brien defines courage as ” Courage, I seemed to think, comes to us in finite quantities,like an inheritance, and by being frugal and stashing it away and letting it earn interest, we steadily increase our moral capital in preparation for that day when the account must be drawn down. It was a comforting theory. It dispensed with all those brother-some little acts of daily courage. it offered hope and grace to the repetitive coward; it justified the past while amortizing the future”
I think O’Brien defines courage in this way is because not everyone has courage but some people might not show it as much as other people do, which isn’t a bad thing at all. But some people just need to learn how to express it in a way that others can see that they are not afraid to be the person they are. Being able to do things they don’t normal do or facing their biggest fear and not being afraid and overcoming it. As I said before everyone has courage but some don’t know exactly how to express it as some people do know how to express and are willing to show people who they really are and not be afraid anymore.
For the people that don’t exactly know how to express their own type of courage will eventually overcome that and be able to show people that they aren’t afraid anymore or even tell themselves to show courage in themselves that they can do it and to not be afraid anymore. overall the moral meaning of courage is to find your own way to express how you truly are as a person and is able stand up for yourself and be able to stand up for your friends in a way that shows your true colors as a person.
Everyone has their own way of expressing their own type of courage but like I said before every person has their own definition of courage and how they can describes it and express it for themselves.
