About Me

hello. here’s an unbelievably boring about me that i wrote last semester. after reading the quirky intros of my peers, i felt the need to rewrite my about me, but of course, that would require energy and time that i do not have, so here’s this.

Hey, I’m Mehak. I’ve lived in Naperville for the past 8 years, and lived in Olathe, Kansas, for the 9 before that.  I was born near San Francisco, California, but my Cali days were unfortunately short-lived.

I come from a family of 4 of me, my parents, and my older brother. My brother Jay and I are 6 years apart, and although we look nothing alike, I’ve inherited most of my qualities and values from him. As much as I hate to admit it, he’s probably the funniest person I know and that’s one of the many things I look up to him for (besides the fact that he’s 6 feet tall.) My parents are both computer engineers who came to the United States when my brother was an infant, and have worked incredibly hard to be where they are today. When they’re not yelling at me for sleeping too much, they are very supportive and encouraging of all of my aspirations. My family definitely is one of my biggest daily reminders to 1) be grateful and 2) strive for success.

At North, the club that has mainly impacted my academic lens is DECA. It may be known to some as a business club (or borderline cult), but for me, it has shown me how many opportunities there are in a business based career. Seeing the real-life applications of my events and my potential in these fields has led me to a path that I’m really excited to experience. But the more entertaining parts of DECA are the competitions; getting to leave school and spend time with friends at sectionals, state, and sometimes internationals is a large incentive worth working for. In my sophomore year, we got to go to Atlanta for internationals, and it definitely was one of the most fun weeks I’ve had. Touring the city and meeting hundreds of students from around the world was an unforgettable experience.

Long term, I would love to be able to mix computer science and economics into something that would better the world and innovate in a way that hasn’t been seen before. I haven’t really figured out how I’m going to do that yet, but I know that the picture will get clearer as I delve deeper into these fields.

Outside of school, my life is far less interesting. My hobbies include things that basically every high-schooler (and more) do; Sleep, eating good food (I love Taco Bell way too much), and Netflix. My favorite movie would have to be Interstellar since I saw it years ago but still am amazed by it, but otherwise, it would be some movie meant for 6-year-olds, like Aladdin or Despicable Me.

This blog will probably contain posts about whatever I find interesting, whether it’s technology-related, food-related, and more.
