Why is Niall Horan the Best Artist to Stan?

“No! Don’t give her the AUX!”

Pretty much everyone that knows me knows that I have the music taste of a 13 year-old teenage fangirl: Shawn Mendes. Why Don’t We. One Direction. And of course, my favorite by far, Niall Horan.

Born in Ireland in 1993, Niall loved playing golf, soccer, and Gaelic football. At only 16 years old, he decided to apply for the X-factor. And the rest is history.

One Direction, comprising of Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne, broke records for years, topped charts, and sold out the greatest stadiums. Until their hiatus almost 5 years ago 🙁

But hey! Thanks to their break, I, along with many oth ers, was able to discover the incredible talent cooped within Niall, one that remained heavily untapped during his time in the band. Here are 5 of the best reasons to stan Niall Horan:

He’s SUPER nice to his fans

I’m not even joking, just ask Twitter (aka the most unbiased source of information when it comes to fandoms) 😉

Oftentimes, Niall will be heading out for televised interviews and will run into fans waiting in long lines outside the building. While most celebrities think nothing of their poor fans shivering in the cold just for a glimpse at their role model, Niall takes the time, not just to take a picture with them, but also to take care of them while they wait. Here, we see a fan tweeting their appreciation for Niall and his kind actions (in a considerably calmer and less sexual manner than most).

Next up is arguably the most precious moment from the entire tour of his first album, Flicker. He saw a young girl’s poster asking if she could dance with him to his hit “Slow Hands.” He gladly shared the stage with young Jade, dancing and singing with her, and leaving all of us adoring him more than before.

His accent is undeniably amazing

I mean… he’s Irish…. need I say more?

Ok, but seriously, Irish accents are just adorable. They’re so friendly and bubbly, perfectly depicting Niall’s own personality. I mean come on, you have to be cold-hearted not to smile when he pronounces “thirty three and a third” as “turty tree and a turd.”

But Niall couldn’t just stop at wooing his fans with one of the sexiest accents of all time, he had to go on and perfect a few others. Enjoy this video of Niall on Jimmy Fallon, I promise it’s worth it.

He’s adorable, friendly, and unproblematic

Let’s all just pause to admire this adorable human

Beyond his heart-melting laugh and blue eyes lies a man who’s truly just a good person. Celebrities like him are so rare to find. He genuinely just wants to do what he loves and share it with his fans. He doesn’t try to start unnecessary drama with other celebrities for attention. A supportive friend, he promotes albums and singles of all of his friends with the most precious captions. And finally, he dedicates time to charities and spending time with terminally-ill children in hospitals. Understanding of the power of his platform, he makes the most of it by supporting causes to help children facing cancer, donating money to the fires in Australia, and holding an annual fundraiser to better the diversity in golf.

He’s SOO relatable

“Sleep till you’re hungry, eat till you sleep.”

“I just like sitting at home, chilling, and watching a movie.”

“I’ve experienced love at first sight, the first time I saw food.”

Please tell me you at least cracked a smile at one of these. He’s SUCH a mood! Niall has proved that celebrities can be down to Earth, do actually experience food cravings like we do, and love their chill time just like us.

His songs also do a great job of speaking to common emotions that we all feel. This connection enables us fans to feel closer to Niall as we’ve all felt similar emotions but in our own ways. For example, in his song “On My Own,” he sings “Everybody’s got somebody/ I just want to be alone/…/I’ll wake up at midday and marry my bed.” We’ve all been in this mood where we just don’t want to be around people after it’s reached a certain point. Another much too relatable song titled “Too Much to Ask” goes “My heart is hoping/You’ll walk right in tonight/Tell me there are things that you regret/’Cause if I’m being honest I ain’t over you yet.” Niall is able to touch the hearts of each of his fans by reaching for emotions that we’ve all felt, putting our feelings into a beautifully created piece of art.

His music is FIREEE

Speaking of Niall’s music, hOLY cOW it’s SOOO good. I’ve never connected so strongly with an artist. Whether I’m over the moon happy, fuming in anger, crying, or stressed, as soon as I listen to Niall’s music I feel absolute peace. It’s an unexplainable connection that I feel to his music, but trust me, it’s like next level therapy. Now I could go on another whole long rant about how amazing his music is and why it’s so great, but you guys should take a listen of your own!

PSA: Niall’s new album is coming out March 13!! You can bet I’ll be spending all day listening to it, who else is gonna give it a listen?

Hi, I’m a Mars Nerd

On the first day of kindergarten, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grow up. “Astronaut,” I replied with confidence, thinking about my love for the stars and all the planets.

First grade. Astronaut. Second. Still astronaut. Third. Surprise, astronaut!

And this pattern continued onwards until I got to junior high. Yes, that wonderful coming of age when everyone who thought they had their whole life planned out as either an astronaut or a firefighter and ended up getting their bubbles bursted. Not surprisingly, I stood firmly in my belief that I was going to be an astronaut when I grew up.

My dreams were crushed very soon after watching Interstellar for the first time.

While it was definitely the most captivating space movie I had ever seen, the thought of getting lost in space only to come back to an Earth that progressed over 90 years while I was gone for only a few months scared me.

Then I was just straight up confused what I wanted to do with my life… until I watched my favorite space movie of all time, The Martian.

This time, I got to see a happier ending. I was enraptured with the innovation Mark Watney exhibited after being stranded by his crew who presumed he had died in an unexpected dust storm. From creating a system in which he could farm food on the barren grounds of Mars to reviving and reprogramming rovers, I was wholly in awe at the fact that not only was life possible on Mars, but that there were people behind all of this—people that made technology like this possible.

And well… I guess I’ve been a Mars nerd since then! While I don’t exactly want to become an astronaut anymore, nor do I want to pursue a career in aerospace engineering, if you handed me a ticket to Mars, I would not hesitate for even a second!

And hey, you are all the first people outside my closest friends that I’ve ever told about my love for space, and Mars especially. Well, except for the time I mentioned the idea of a one-way ticket to colonize Mars to my parents, and they completely flipped out, but that’s a story for another time.

Okay, but guys I’m serious, Mars is so freaking cool!! For starters, the gravity on Mars makes it so that you can jump 3 times higher than you can on Earth according to National Geographic, so that’d be great for me to learn how to actually land a front flip and not fall on my butt oops. There’s also a canyon 5 times as wide and deep as the Grand Canyon, and while I’m sure the views would be stunning, I guess the red rocks you’d be surrounded by would be slightly less impressive when the ground you walk on is always covered in the red rocks and dust.

While Mars will never fail to captivate me with the incredible possibilities of life and a new world, there are a lot of things that are important to consider before just booking a ticket to Mars.

For example, according to Britannica, “by all indications Mars is now a sterile frozen desert.” But there is still hope, because “radar reflections from a possible lake under the south polar cap suggest that water may still exist as a liquid in protected areas below the surface,” meaning that we could find a way to live off of these hidden water niches in the future. Additionally, the average weather on Mars is “in the same range as those experienced on Earth in Antarctica during winter,” which really stinks, but come on, it can’t be that hard to create anti-cold clothes in the future, right? Oh, also, the air on Mars isn’t quite breathable, and quite often filled with sand from sand storms, but we’ll just add it to the list of things to fix, how hard can it be?

Thanks for reading! 🙂
