Hi, I’m Kyra!

A restaurant near NIU when we first moved my brother in.

I belong to a family of 5, with 2 brothers (I’m in the middle) and my mom and dad. Our family dynamic has changed exponentially seeing as my brother has left for college at NIU this year. Because he is not too far away, he comes home to visit for various reasons including the bears game, family birthdays, but sometimes just to do his laundry.

My family is loving and caring, and we always try to spend at least one night a week doing something together. Often times we play a card game called Canasta (hyperlink directions to game), it’s a family tradition. Or we spend our evenings lounging on the couch watching the Goldbergs together. It’s a great family show that brightens our evenings and fills them with laughter.

Besides this, I love to go hiking with my mom and we try to go to Starved Rock at least once every year. On the flip side, I love going to concerts with my dad and we have probably been to over 20 concerts together!

I also belong to other families, I am a part of the badminton team at North. I love the loving atmosphere that the girls bring and how everyone always has their teammates’ best interest at heart. Last year I had a great season, I got 1st place in singles at DVC (finally beat Neuqua), and for doubles (my doubles partner is Abby) we got 2nd place (sadly lost to Neuqua). It was an amazing season with the girls and can’t wait to do it all over again this year!

I have probably spent half of my life listening to music. Whether it be live at concerts or having my own dance parties in my room, music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my best memories have been at concerts. Although it may seem absurd to most people my dad and I will spend around 6 hours waiting in line for a concert, just to get in the front row, and yes I have done this in December, standing in the freezing cold of Chicago.

One of my favorite concerts that I have been too would be Khalid. I have loved his music for a few years now and I was so excited when I heard that he was coming to Chicago. I got to see him in July over the summer and it was one of the most fun experiences of my life. I might have lost my voice the next day, and gone a bit deaf, but it was totally worth it!

Besides listening to music during my free time, you will probably find me binging a show on Netflix. Like many of you, I’m sure, I can easily knock out a season of a TV show in one day. My favorite series include Pretty Little Liars, Jane the Virgin, The Flash, Glee, and Stranger Things. I don’t know if this is just me, but I always seem to get very connected to the characters and when one of them dies, you can sometimes find me crying in my bed… oops.

My friends are also a huge part of my life. I love going to off-campus lunch with them and they include jamming to music in the car, and our excursions to target to normally buy Starbucks and… cake. Besides lunches, we love to go shopping, to football games and just to each other’s houses. I love that we often talk for hours about the dumbest things but I love them!
