About Me

Hey y’all, Eric here.

Like everyone else, I’ve been looking for the “cool” things of the world since I was born.

First, it was rocks. Everytime I visited a national park gift shop or a remote beach, I would go straight to the coolest rock I saw.

Then, it was Pokemon cards. I had no idea how to play the actual game, but their shiny, holographic displays were enchanting. Furthermore, trading them taught me the most basic rules of economics.

Since then, I’ve been into plenty of other things, most of which I’ve completely forgotten. At some point in time I’ve been really into dinosaurs, climbing trees, lemon poppy seed muffins, the Chinese TV show Journey to the West, Avatar the Last Airbender, and Nerf Guns.

So, my life is pretty cool, at least to me. That’s why I’m writing a blog; I want to share what I think is cool. So, if you’re interested in hearing from a teenage boy who thinks he’s smarter than he actually is, this is the blog for you.

Currently, my biggest interest is anything computers. Stripping them down to their individual parts and studying how they interconnect is quite interesting, at least to me. Personally, I’m not rich enough to buy expensive gaming PC parts and put them together, so, instead, I find old computers to take apart because they are free. It’s really surprising how easy it is to fix a computer by cannibalizing parts from other computers. If you look in my basement, there’s dozens of old and broken computers sprawled across the floor. Beyond just hardware, my favorite thing about computers is programming. In the past I used to do competitive programming, but now I’m into machine learning and artificial intelligence. This summer, I interned at Fermilab writing programs to take better pictures of stars. In my current project, I am trying to train a program to write its own screenplay. I also really want to learn how to make apps for the App Store, so let me know if you have any simple and original app ideas.

My other interests include soccer, which I’ve played since second grade. Right now, I play for the Naperville North soccer team and my favorite team to watch is Son Heung Min’s Tottenham Hotspurs.
